If you are going to compare yourself to anyone, don’t compare the quality of the work you’re putting out. You may not be the best judge of your own creative output.
Compare the work and the hours that you put IN to your work. You’ll never get Bruce Lee’s (or Kevin J. Anderson’s, or John Scalzi’s, or Mary Robinette Kowal’s) results without putting in Bruce Lee’s (or KJA’s, or JS’s, or MRK’s) hours. And I recognize that there are things like day jobs, families, kids, etc. The question is, how much time are you spending doing things that aren’t that productive or, in the long run, worthwhile? How much time are you spending playing video games? (Yes, video games are fun, and I have sunk plenty of hours into Pokemon, Legen of Zelda, Arkham Asylum, and now DCUO.) Could you maybe be doing less of that, and more of the writing? Or whatever it is that you want to do, be it finger painting, music, exercise, etc?
